Weekend Handyman Tools

There are weekend warriors who become athletes on Saturdays and Sundays and those that become a handyman or handywoman. They shed their employment persona, don their tee-shirts, blue jeans and haul out their tools in order to fix up their house. Many women and men take great joy and fulfillment in being the one who has repaired and crafted many portions of their abode. If this sounds like something you’d like to embark on, you’ll need an ample supply of tools. Here are some of the basics:

– Tool box: A heavy duty metal tool box will be the perfect caddy to stock hand tools that you will tote around your property. Make sure the one you select is large enough to fill with a good assortment and with enough compartments to separate smaller components into sections. The compartments will keep tiny parts from being lost in the shuffle. – Hammers: A basic framing hammer should weigh one pound or more. This weight will more easily drive nails than a small, lightweight version. A sledge hammer will be appropriate for pounding items such as fence posts and stakes. – Levels: In order to keep projects level, you will need one or more devices. Some examples are water levels, mason lines and plumb bobs. Be certain to use the same item throughout a building project as they may differ somewhat in evening results. – Tape measure: A retractable metal tape measure will be needed for nearly all projects. Larger jobs will need up to 100 feet of measuring, so you might as well invest in one of this size. – Pry bars: There are different types of pry bars which a handyperson will need. These are for prying up old nails, flooring and such. Other names of products in this category are pinch bars and cat’s paws. Check out the hardware store to see which one will fit your needs. – Wrenches: A socket wrench with various head sizes and a combination wrench will assist you with screws and tightening. – Chisels: Chisels come in a variety of widths. It may be useful to stock several sizes in order to select from depending on the project. – Saws: A handsaw will be required for basic board cutting. There are other options such as chain saws for cutting branches from trees and jigsaws for more intricate maneuvering. – Drill and bits: There are options of electrical drills, those that are battery operated and some which operate manually. Whatever your preference, drilling will make insertion of screws and various bolts go like clockwork. – Clamps: A quick clamp will be a necessary item for many weekend warrior projects. Make sure you have at least one clamp in your repertoire. – Sawhorse: Propping boards upon sawhorses will make short work of every building project. Two sawhorses will come in quite handy. – Broom: Don’t forget the clean up! Having a broom in your shed or tool cupboard is necessary to tidy up when the job is done.

Once the weekend handyman or handywoman has gathered a good set of supplies, the projects that they can do with them are endless.

Hand Tools

Every home needs hand tools of some kind. You might need a hand tool to put a picture up on your wall, or tighten up a very loose faucet, or possibly put up a garden host hanger outside.

Home power tools: every household should have a basic power drill. You can make holes with the drill. You can screw in screws with the drill. You can remove rust with the drill. You can sand with the drill. You can shape with the drill.

These are handy because they save you time and the job will be better. I will talk about the most basic tools that everyone needs around the house.

Hammer: Everyone needs a hammer. Hammers come in all shapes and sizes and they are used for putting in nails and pulling them out is the most common use. But they also are used for nudging things that are jammed by putting a piece of wood on what you are trying to nudge and then tapping on that Wood with a hammer this will prevent the hammer from denting the actual piece you’re trying to nudge. Also you can use a hammer to straighten out nails for reuse.

Screwdriver: screwdrivers common in three basic shapes, and the shapes are: flat, star shaped (this is called Phillips), square shaped (this is called Robertson) all of these shapes come in three basic sizes. When choosing a size make sure you are using the correct one and not one to small. If you’re using a screwdriver with a head that is one size smaller it still might work but it will ruin the screw head and possibly the screwdriver. Over a period of time using the wrong size screwdriver and screwdriver will eventually not work because it can’t grip the screw properly. So all is make sure that you’re using the correct size screwdriver for your screw.

Pliers: this is also very handy hand tool to grab things with and hold them. You can start with a very basic plier which has a slot at the pivot point of the two handles which is adjustable for smaller or larger objects which you want to grab. At a meeting to this area is a course Knurled roundish section to grab nuts with for a tighter grip such as a rusted nuts on a bolt. further out on the plier is the end use for holding objects such as nuts for tightening, pulling up nails and so forth.

Handsaw: there are many different types of hand saws. Your basic hand saw for general-purpose is used for cutting wood such as wood studs which are 2 x 4 wood, or cutting a piece of plywood, or cutting a broom handle shorter. Hand saws come in fine or course cutting actions going from a slow cut to a fast aggressive cut in this order. The fine cut gives you a better cut edge leaving it splinter free where the coarse cut rips through the wood quickly leaving a jagged edge around the cut. If you find a general-purpose handsaw it will give you the best of both worlds.

From years of experience and working on hundreds of homes I’ve seen hundreds of great ideas in both painting and design. For more great ideas on how to do stuff asked me ask: diy home repair & improvements and painters toronto

Sheet Metal Tools

Sheet metal is nothing but a metal rotated into a sheet having a thickness between the plate and the foil. It is one of the basic forms utilized in metal working and it can be bent and cut into different shapes. You can also do cold forging which can shape your metal the way you need it to be. The thickness of this material varies from thin foil to thick plate. They are obtainable as coiled strip or as flat pieces. Coiled strips are nothing but the continuous running of the sheet. Different metals like brass, titanium, and aluminum, and copper, nickel, tin and steel are converted into sheets of metal. Sometimes, even precious metals like platinum, gold and silver are converted into sheet metals for decorative purposes. Every day different objects like car bodies, wings of airplane, building roofs, medical tables and tools are manufactured with the help of sheets of metal. The tools used for cutting the sheet metal differ according to the purpose for which the sheets of metal is going to be used.

Different tools like metal rollers, tip snips, etc. are being used to cut the sheet metal. The difficulty level in using sheet metal tools can be hard or easy; this depends on the tools being used. For instance, for the process of deep drawing, metal rollers can be used and thick sheets can be bent by using a tool called press-brake.

For the purpose of stamping designs and images in the sheet metal a tool called machine or stamping press is being used. Thus, each tool makes its own effect on the metal. The most important benefit of using these tools is that a tool available for one purpose need not be used for some other purpose. For instance for deep drawing of sheets of metal, the tool called rollers would be the best option, instead if the tool called press-brake is used for this purpose the desired result cannot be attained. So different tools can be used for different purpose, this helps the technician to shape the metal according to his desire.

Sheets of metal tools are used for different purposes like wheeling, deep drawing, ironing, cutting, bending, perforating, stamping, spinning, rolling, press-brake forming, roll forming, etc.

Sheet metal tools must be used with utmost care. It is better to use the sheet metal tools only after getting training in using them. If an inexperienced person uses the tools he may get some injuries and it is also safe to keep the sheet tools out of the reach of the children.

Sheet Metal Tools are very helpful when trying to fix things around the house that involve metal plating, sheeting or otherwise. They might even be useful when fixing your car ports as they sometimes get dents from other vehicles or your own.

Air Tools

A pneumatic tool or air tools as they are commonly called are pieces of equipment that are driven typically by compressed air or a form of gas.

As time goes on and compressors get cheaper the industry is seeing more and more sales being fed into the do it yourself(DIY) market which although initially surprising manufacturers they have quickly raced to meet the new demands and target their niche more directly.

A few reasons air tools are becoming popular are the cost of running, the ease of using the machines, safety involved with using equipment along, they have a higher power to weight ratio and possibly most importantly – as time goes on they are getting smaller, cheaper and more portable.

There are thousands of different tools and applications that pneumatic products can be used for just a few include:
•  Paint sprayers
•  Grinders
•  Sanders
•  Screwdrivers
•  Sandblasters
•  Paint airbrushing
•  Impact wrenches
•  Nail guns
•  Drills
•  And many, many more.

Safety should always be considered before attempting anything, using any air tools for any purpose. Depending on the method used and the different factors involved will affect the level of risk involved.  Gas masks can prevent any risk of vapors from gases or materials involved and goggles(which are highly essential) should be worn at all times and can protect you from flying debris.

A positive to working with this system is the ability to hook up with many different pieces of equipment up on the same power source, it can make the workshop clutter free and is a very fast paced easy to use changeover process. It is a good alternative to cordless battery-run equipment that not always take the same batteries in all their devices.

Overall it seems to be the fact that air tools are an efficient way to work that is proving to be their success. They are a great alternative way to use energy in the workplace whether it be residential or commercial work, a complete necessity in this modern world.

Accounting tools

In the old days the records on credits and debits were written by hand on actual physical account books and the whole process of accounting took a lot of working hours and work effort and was quite hard work which needed accuracy and precision with numbers and money transactions. However, what has happened to actual paper money or books for example, has happened to accounting too. These days almost all accounting and financial management is done digitally with the help of computers. Like money, bills, receipts, tax deductions and announcements all travel from sender to receiver on the digital routes via internet and they are archived in the endless corridors of some server space, maybe physically far away place from the actual owner of the archives.

Modern accounting tool can run as software on a computer of as a cloud service used via internet. If in the old days, before the whole information was turned into digital format, the person who actually did the markings to the actual physical accounts needed to be a bit of an expert in accounting, while modern day electronic accounting (in Finnish = sähköinen kirjanpito) system enable for example uploading the information to the system without actually having extensive knowledge on bookkeeping and accounting. The account books needed some space as well, while the records on some remote server doesn’t claim space, only money which runs as well as a digital information in the web.

As with digitalizing the information usually is, the physical manifestation of the actions and information vanishes and becomes maybe only an emanation from the digital world’s events, such as is a receipt from the actual money transaction, which is actually a numbers in digital format moving through internet connections from digital bank account to the other. Bookkeeping is not actually any more bookkeeping as such, writing the records into actual books.

Do you want to know more about electronic accounting (in Finnish = sähköinen kirjanpito)?

Industrial tools

Industrial tools are what help keep economies growing and societies prospering. Since humans first discovered how to forge tools they have been able to leverage their natural abilities and have, over time, made the world as we know it. Whether it is pliers, tongs, or Hammer Keys, industrial tools expand the capacity of human work and have helped bring forth the great material wealth of contemporary civilization.

Every day we observe a great deal of industrial activity. In some cases, we see workingmen building a new office building; in other cases, we see men and women working in an auto body repair shop. No matter where we look, we see persons busy at work; and most of the time, they are using industrial tools to perform their jobs. Tools, even the simplest of tools, multiply the power of human effort. In heavy industries such as steel, petroleum, rail road, and vehicle production, industrial tools are indispensible. One cannot, for example, build a large, heavy, complex piece of machinery without hammer keys; this kind of tool is required for getting fitting things into their exact place and for carrying out the crucial work that is required to shape particular material into its end use.

The advent of computers and other advanced electronic devices has not made industrial tools irrelevant. The fact is heavy machining and heavy manufacturing is still done; in other words, persons still make things, such as cars, boats and kayaks, airplanes, tall buildings, and as long as they continue to do so there will be a need for industrial tools. Indeed, there is often too much attention given to how much computers, electronics, and information technology have changed the world. The impact of such ‘soft’ tools is still nowhere near that of industrial and other heavy-machinery tools. These latter created and continue to sustain the modern world. You may be able to design a new automobile or marine vehicle on a computer, but someone still needs to build it; and that task is left to persons who put their hands and their wits together, and pick up the industrial tools necessary to actually produce the new car or new boat.

When looking for the best producer of high-quality tools, one ought to look at manufacturers that have a proven track record. There is no sense in investing in industrial tools that cannot perform to specifications. This is particularly important because many heavy machinery jobs demand that the tools used are precise and reliable. Errors in size and shape or sudden failures in a tool can lead to catastrophic results in the workplace. There is no room for error when it comes to industrial tools.

Finding and selecting high-quality tools to do such work is where the ‘soft tool of the worldwide web comes into play. Using the web enables one to search for and compare various tool manufacturers. Why spend time and energy driving around looking for the best tool manufacturers when you can bring them all to you, so to speak? Finding the right tools may just be a click away.

Common Lineman Tools

A lineman can also be referred to as a power line technician, and their job is tough. Their usual task is to set up and maintain electric power and telephone lines. However, the responsibilities of a lineman can extend to the installation and maintenance of transmission and cable TV lines. Being a lineman means that you are responsible of outdoor installation and maintenance tasks. Those who do the same job inside buildings are called electricians. If you are a lineman, then, you know you cannot work without your lineman tools.

Linemen are hard workers who cannot do their jobs without their hand tools, which they carry around on a daily basis. Unlike tools used by any other worker, a lineman’s tools require proper installation, because they are used with electrical installations. The handles of these tools are coated with rubber to prevent the worker from getting electrocuted.

Pliers are the usual tool that linemen use regularly. According to the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee or NJAT, pliers are the most commonly used tool in power and transmission lines installation and maintenance. These tools are used to grip, pull, and bend materials like electrical wires and cables. There are a few types of pliers. Each type is used for specific purposes.  For instance, the long-nosed ones are used when working on cables in tight places. These long and narrow pliers are also used to work with small wires. There are also heavy-duty lineman pliers, which have a strong grip. These can cut thick wires.

Cable strippers are another commonly used tool by linemen. Wires and cables are covered with an insulating material, which protects the wires from the weather. In electrical wires, the insulation prevents the conduction of electricity, thus protecting anyone handling the wires. However, during wire installation and maintenance, the wires or cables may need to be “skinned.” A lineman uses a wire stripper, whose sole function is to remove the insulation covering the wires. A cable stripping device can remove the sheath covering of the cables. There are different types of cable or wire strippers, but they basically perform the same kind of task.

Screwdrivers come in really handy, as they are used not only by linemen but also by any handyman. Screwdrivers used by electricians and linemen should have insulated handles too. Generally, different types of screwdrivers are used, because one type alone is insufficient, as screws come in different sizes and types too.

Aside from the three tools already mentioned, other important ones are wrenches, sockets, hammer, knife, and measuring devices. Linemen have to carry these tools around their body for convenience at work. They can be very bulky when brought together at once. Then again, these tools are generally easy to use and are essential to the job of linemen, electricians, and technicians.

The jobs of these people require safety precautions. Aside from the tools mentioned, they have to be in proper attire at work. Protective gear may not necessarily be considered as a tool; however, it is relevant to the safety of the worker. Safety gear includes hats, protective glasses, gloves, safety harness, and safety boots.
