Binge Eating While on a Diet

It is so easy to fall into bad diet habits after one night of overeating. Christmas and Thanksgiving are very difficult times to diet. Weekends are also challenging, when our schedule varies and we face birthday parties, weddings, even football games. These are the times when everyone expects everyone else to eat, eat, eat! Though you are on a diet, you occasionally fall to temptation. Now that you have overeaten, what should you do? Many would say that since you already blew it, you might as well just keep eating and fall off your weight loss plan. This is poor advice. Here are just a few ideas to help you after you pigged out!

We have all experienced Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. What does your average person do after eating this huge meal? In most families, everyone retires to the living room, and the men fall asleep on the couch watching football, while the women either start cleaning up the kitchen or relax and talk, sitting on the couches. Cleaning up the kitchen is actually not a bad choice. The key is to be active after such a large meal. You could get the men up and have everyone take a jaunt around the block. Be creative, but most of all stay active! After all, you can’t lose weight by not exercising.

The morning after your binge eating occurred and you can feel awful, and you might not feel like eating, but eating is a good option. In reality, it is the best weight loss option. A good breakfast will help you digest all that food from the day before. A good breakfast would have also been a good option before that Thanksgiving or holiday meal. A breakfast high in protein before the meal would have filled you and helped you to eat less when you arrived at the bountiful spread.

Throughout the day after such a high calorie meal, be sure to include a variety of fruits and vegetables. It is also important to load yourself up on water. These options will also help with the digestive process.

Be sure to eat your normal diet even the day after such a huge meal. Include the fruits, veggies, and water for a help, but eat a balanced, healthy diet throughout the day. Not eating is the worst thing for your body when you are trying to lose weight. Do not let yourself look back at the bad day and be discouraged. Look ahead at your weight loss goals and focus on your weight loss plan. All of this will help take care of your body.
