Let’s get ready to Ruuummble!
Microsoft has put on the gloves and is calling out the heavyweight champ…Google.
Contender: Bing, Microsoft’s new “Decision Engine” is a state of the art tool ready to meet any “surfers” need. Their layout is very clean and friendly to the eye. By creating Bing, Microsoft is hoping to move beyond the user’s experience and help customers make better decisions, focusing initially on four key vertical areas: making a purchase decision, planning a trip, researching a health condition or finding a local business. Microsoft has done their homework; thus, targeting the 30-42% of unsatisfied users.
Champion: Google’s search engine in by far the king of all search engines. When we talk about keywords, Pay Per Clicks (PPC) ads, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and search rankings, it’s all in relation to Google. Additionally, to the everyday Joe (and Jane), Google is a household name. Google has branded themselves well…they are synonymous with the word “search”.
Scorecard: After spending several hours comparing both engines, this is my findings: Overall: 10-9 Bing
Bing has a “clean” look and feel to their presented pages. They also offer additional sources to the left and bottom of each page. Very thoughtful and insightful.
The travel section is uniquely impressive. Input your departure location and final destination and Bing will assist with the best prices. Bing will also advise you if that price will fluctuate.
As far as videos, all I can say is WOW! All you have to do is place your mouse over the thumbnail and it starts playing! Unbelievable feature!
OK, what about still photos. Well, when “mousing” over the photo, the image expands and gives you an option to “see similar images”. Pretty cool.
In my opinion, Bing offers the best advance in search technology; therefore, is a much better option than Google. Now, can it topple the champ? Not necessarily…at least not in the immediate future. However, Microsoft has really impressed me with their overall end product. I’ll give Bing a fair chance and start utilizing their services.
This comparison report is between BING, Microsoft’s new “Decision” search engine and Google’s search engine. Microsoft has done their homework and is a formidable challenge to the champions belt.
