Google Goggles updated to support optical text translation

The optical search tool for Android named Google Goggles has recently been announced to include an essential update which improves the app in a number of ways; including giving it the ability to recognize and translate languages.

Up to now, Goggles just support optical character recognition for five languages with Latin-based alphabets including English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian. This app is quite easy to use: all you have to do is just to snap a picture of text, then the content will be scanned and a translation window is offered. Users then can choose what language you want the text to be translated into. Google also aims to make Goggles possible to read even non-Latin languages like Chinese, Arabic and Hindi.

The new functionality of Google Goggles has been tested and reported to work properly. It is surprising that the app can also work as a complement to Google’s Web-based translator when using your PC. Google Goggles shows it more advantageous over Google Web Translate as the later cannot translate text in Flash panels in a Flash-heavy site in another language. However, users can snap a picture of their screen to translate Flash-based content.

It is also claimed that the overall functionality of Goggles is also improved with a new crop tool in the interface. Thanks to this tool, users can focus on a specific area and ignore the surroundings, a feature extremely useful for the new optical character recognition feature.

For those who own an Android phone, he can choose to turn on or off the flash, searches can now be done of items in the phone’s photo gallery, and the database of artwork, products, and logos has grown to improve search results.

Android users can now download Google Goggles from Android Market.
