Four New Bare Metal Configurations Now Available for Blue Box Cloud, Supporting Hybrid Environments

Seattle, Wash. (PRWEB) February 19, 2015

Blue Box—a Seattle-based provider of on-demand OpenStack-powered private cloud as a service (PCaaS) solutions—today made available four new configurations for baremetal implementations in its Blue Box Cloud PCaaS offering, powered by OpenStack. The new configurations help support hybrid implementations between bare metal and OpenStack clouds.

Popular with customers running workloads that require direct hardware access and high performance, bare metal deployment delivers the full capabilities of the underlying hardware without the overhead consumed by a hypervisor. In Blue Box Cloud, hardware is dedicated to each user deployment, so customers have the ability to fully leverage all of the cloud resources in their stack, without worrying about what other tenants might be doing, a concern common in cloud environments where the physical infrastructure is shared among many customers.

The four bare metal configuration types announced today were built in response to the most frequent workloads Blue Box customers deploy. They are:

1. Blue Box Cloud Bare Metal

The Blue Box Cloud Bare Metal offering is perfect for commercial database applications. It provides a low-cost but highly capable server for customers who require dedicated Web and application servers, queue processing or commercial database servers (MS SQL or Oracle).

2. Blue Box Cloud Bare Metal – High I/O

The Blue Box Cloud Bare Metal High I/O offering provides superior performance for online transaction processing (OLTP) and traditional SQL and NoSQL database services and any other high I/O intensive workloads. Built with SSD storage, this configuration also works well for high performance MySQL or Postgres databases.

3. Blue Box Cloud Bare Metal – High Memory

The High Memory Bare Metal server provides an answer for customers with heavy caching, search indexing and in-memory analytics applications. This configuration also will work well for both commercial and open source database packages.

4. Blue Box Cloud Bare Metal – High Storage Density

The Blue Box High Density Bare Metal servers offer 24TB of local storage, ideal for customers with heavy storage requirements.

“When our customers asked us for bare metal, we responded by giving them a deployment model that works in hybrid with our traditional, cloud infrastructure,” said Bob DeSantis, chief revenue officer at Blue Box. “Many customers want both bare metal options and hypervisor-based deployments that support the movement of workloads as development, testing and production needs dictate. That’s what we’ve given them with these four new bare metal configurations.”

All four of these bare metal options are available immediately for current and new Blue Box Cloud customers. These options augment the existing optional capabilities available for Blue Box Cloud included dedicated object storage (based on OpenStack Swift), dedicated block storage (based on OpenStack Cinder and powered by Nimble Storage), and dedicated physical firewalls (powered by Juniper Networks). Growing SMB Enterprise Sector Drives Growth in the Low-End Servers Market, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) March 06, 2015

Follow us on LinkedIn – Low-end servers, supported by their proven attributes of low-price, superior processing and security features, have emerged as a sturdy value proposition for enterprises seeking cost effective and better performing technology solutions. Small and medium sized businesses and home offices have long been the primary target for low-end servers, as high-end servers fail to fulfill the requirements of these businesses given their high cost and inability to effectively process low workloads of data. While the primary addressable market segments for low-end servers remain the small and medium sized business (SMBs), data centers, and home offices, use of these servers is gaining immense popularity in corporate branches, independent departments and workgroups of large enterprises. In addition, low-end servers span is expanding into in-house server based applications of large enterprises such as business software and e-mail systems. Simultaneously, low-end x86 servers are finding their use as replacements for high-priced high-end servers in cluster/grid based format, which is further enhancing the overall demand for low-end servers.

Enterprise data centers are now more than ever being strained to process gigantic amounts of information, thanks to the growing usage of a range of sophisticated mobile devices and the need to access information even on the move. While high costs, particularly CAPEX on high-end servers has been one of the major issues plaguing these data centers, scalability, increased energy consumption and the need for large space owing to the form factor of the servers and the requirement of powering and cooling them are the other factors that have been challenging IT managers in various facilities. Virtualization and cloud computing have significantly helped transform the data center environment by bringing about significant efficiencies at the macro level thereby enabling the facility to become more robust. However, there still exists the need for gaining efficiencies at the hardware level, which requires systems that help address major issues that these facilities have been predominantly facing. In this context, with their low price points and relatively reduced energy consumption attributes, low-end servers are making strong progress in the data center market.

As stated by the new market research report on Low-End Servers, Asia-Pacific represents the largest as well as the fastest growing market worldwide with a projected CAGR of 7.9% over the analysis period. Growth in the region is led by countries such as China and India. The rapid proliferation of SMBs in developing regions like Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Latin America bodes well for the market. Mushrooming of SMBs is largely the result of higher GDP growth, higher liquidity, and greater net incomes in these regions. In Europe, subdued growth in IT spending, especially in Western Europe, is casting a dampener on demand patterns in the domestic market.

Key players covered in the report include Acer America Corporation, Advanced Micro Devices Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., Dell Inc., Fujitsu Limited, Hewlett-Packard Company, Hitachi Data Systems, Intel Corporation, Lenovo, Microsoft Corporation, NCR Corporation, Oracle Corporation and Sugon.

The research report titled “Low-End Servers: A Global Strategic Business Report” announced by Global Industry Analysts Inc., provides a comprehensive review of industry trends, growth drivers, restraints, market share, size and demand projections and forecasts. Major geographic regions covered include the US, Canada, Japan, Europe (France, Germany, Italy, UK, Spain, Russia, and Rest of Europe), Asia-Pacific (China, India, and Rest of Asia-Pacific), Latin America (Brazil and Rest of Latin America), and Rest of World. The report also offers coverage on mergers, acquisitions, product launches and other strategic industry activities of major global and regional players.

Oracle Testing Services

Oracle testing services:

In a typical EBS (Enterprise Business Suite) implementation, testing consumes approximately 20 percent of the total implementation time and involves writing test scenarios and testing them with hundreds of transactions. In addition, most of the testing requires high level of skill in terms of understanding the business requirement and understanding the EBS landscape. Such skilled resources are also vital for creating product solutions that will help organizations meet the needs of a changing business environment. Diverting such skilled resources to a testing function for extended periods creates a vacuum in managing the business. This results in insufficient and inefficient test coverage, which in turn, results in an EBS implementation that does not deliver the desired business value.

“Test Accelerator for EBS” helps organizations overcome these challenges. It is one of the most comprehensive EBS functional and automated testing solutions designed to improve the performance of your EBS system. The solution has a large repository of reusable test cases classified by processes. It incorporates best practices honed by us during the course of successfully implementing the solution for various global fortune 2000 enterprises over the years. These best practices enhance the efficacy of testing through increased and accurate test coverage.

Oracle launches newer versions in the market. Some of the key features of the solution are listed below:

Repository of Functional test cases for typical business critical process like Order to Cash, Procure to Pay, Demand to Supply Management, Human Resources & Portals
Covers domain area specific tests as a part of industry solutions (Manufacturing & Consumer Goods, Retail, Pharmaceutical)
Geography-specific test scenarios and cases (North America, Europe, Asia Pac, Japan, etc) e.g. Withholding tax in Japan, Italy, USA, etc; Electronic media for payment in Germany, France, Hong Kong, USA, etc; Sales and Use tax in the USA.
Automated end-to-end business process testing framework for EBS implementation, upgrade, service pack & regression testing
Facilitates and accelerates change impact testing for understanding the impact of service packs on the EBS environment on specific business processes

Reduce Risk and Costs:

Anyone involve in delivery of a project has inevitably had experience of projects being deployed and then encountering issues that were not picked up during the test phase. Perhaps this led to functional issues, or as is perhaps more common performance problems, whatever the issue the cost of resolving a specific issue once in production is exponentially higher (up to 100x according to analysts).

By using better, more controlled, more automated, testing procedures it is possible to reduce the risks associated with testing, as well as cut costs by both streamlining and automating the testing, and reducing the costs associated with fixes to live systems.

Unexplored MySQL

MySQL has a lot of usefull features that are not known by many programmers and DBAs. This article gives a short list of such features.

SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS

When it is necessary to extract data limited by certain number of records at one time and get total number of records meeting the condition, keep in mind the following elegant solution:

SELECT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS * FROM `table` WHERE id > 100 LIMIT 10;
SELECT FOUND_ROWS();

First query return 10 records meeting the condition. Second query returns number of records that should return previous query composed without LIMIT.

INSERT IGNORE

When you insert new record into a table having primary or unique key and want to avoid duplicate key error, take a look on INSERT IGNORE statement. Usually you can resolve duplicate key conflicts on PHP as follows:

 // find a row
 $ row = query(‘SELECT * FROM table WHERE id=1’);
 // if there is no row, insert new one
 if (!$ row) {
 query(‘INSERT INTO table …’);
 }

But we can do the same with just 1 MySQL query without PHP:

INSERT IGNORE INTO table …

ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE

There is common task – if the object exist update it, otherwise create new one. This is how we can do it on PHP:

 // look for record by certain condition
 $ row = query(‘SELECT * FROM `table` WHERE id=1’);
 // if record exists
 if ($ row) {
 // update it
 query(‘UPDATE `table` SET value=value+1 WHERE id=1’);
 }
 else {
 // insert new record
 query(‘INSERT INTO `table` SET value=1, id=1’);
 }

We can do the same with just 1 MySQL query without PHP assuming table has primary or unique key on ID:

INSERT INTO `table` SET value=1, id=1 ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE value=value+1

ALTER IGNORE TABLE

Assume there is table with the following structure and data:

TestTab (f1 int, f2 int, f3 varchar(20))

    f1   f2   f3
—————————
  1 2 row 1
  1 2 row 2
  1 3 row 3
  2 3 row 4
  3 4 row 5

Now it is required to remove duplicate entries in first two columns from the table.
We can do this by running the following MySQL query:

ALTER IGNORE TABLE `TestTab` ADD UNIQUE INDEX(f1,f2);

Oracle Olap A Boon For Both Outsource Oracle And Offshore Oracle Development

An alternative to the Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition is the Oracle OLAP. The Oracle OLAP is a calculation engine that supports various kinds of advanced analytical applications. Outsource Oracle development can use to this tool for all kinds of analytical calculations like Planning, budgeting, forecasting, sales and marketing. OLAP is an amazing tool for identifying the trends in the business and also understand the various situations in the business thereby aiding offshore Oracle development team to provide comprehensive solutions. Oracle Database 11g answers to the complex queries by accessing multiple databases and thereby improves the performance of the system.

There are numerous benefits that could be reaped through the effective usage of Oracle OLAP.

One of the major benefits of Oracle OLAP is that the data is not stored in a repetitive format. Every data is a standalone kind and there is no duplication allowed in the system. This is possible due to the reason that the data is directly stored in the Oracle Database relational engine.
Offshore Oracle development enables this kind of mechanism wherein the multi dimensional data will be stored as a single file and there is no replication at all. As a result of this, outsource Oracle development team can enable the top management team to access the reliable and accurate information faster than ever before. The final information that is supplied to the decision makers is of high quality.
Investments in IT are of course considered to be productive but at the same time companies are looking for law cost options as well. In this context Oracle OLAP is a great option as there is a dramatic reduction in the IT costs as well, especially when it is outsourced to an offshore Oracle development company. This is made possible through the maintenance of single server because it provides much more flexibility to outsource Oracle development companies.
As per the requirements of Oracle OLAP all you need is a single server and there is no additional hardware that is required. All this in a way saves in the installation costs and also provides greater security as well.
Oracle OLAP also supports the SQL system and so if you have an existing SQL system then all the resources and tools installed for the purpose of SQL will work well with Oracle OLAP.
There is no need of changeover applications and server requirements as the multi dimensional data accessing is also done through SQL servers.
In an organisation Data is supposed the most vital resource that should be made available on a continuous basis. It is based on this data that most of the decision is taken by the management team. Right data at the right time to the right people is the need of any organisation. Outsource Oracle development team can make use of Oracle OLAP and Oracle Real Applications to form the basis for a larger database.

Undoubtedly, in this manner offshore Oracle development companies will benefit greatly because they will be able to provide valuable information to the users on a continuous basis through the database.

8 Million Transactions Per Minute Achieved by Gensonix

Bingham Farms, Michigan (PRWEB) February 26, 2015

A record breaking speed of 8 million transactions per minute has been achieved by Scientel’s Gensonix Enterprise NoSQL DB running on a Single Node MDWA2900 system. The higher speed reported by Scientel is attributed to the efficiency and overall unique performance advantages rendered by its Gensonix Enterprise NoSQL DB. Additionally, the new Model 2900 Medium Data Warehouse Appliance (MDWA) technology – an extension of Scientel’s successful Large Data Warehouse Appliance (LDWA) platform – helped achieve this high increase in performance. Scientel’s DWA technology can replace multiple racks full of “refrigerator style” servers which are usually required to reach such high performance levels.

This transaction speed is achieved for a benchmark test run by Scientel and is comprised of 1 transaction record with 1 index per record.

“The efficiency of the Gensonix Enterprise NoSQL DB combined with the latest hardware technology makes it possible for us to achieve higher performance levels at an increasing pace, says Norman T. Kutemperor, CTO. Gensonix is a “polymorphic” DB with multi-modeling capabilities supported with its NSQL©® language. Multi-modeling includes the ability of utilizing different data models such as relational, network, column, document, etc., for a single application within the same DB.

When an application developed in NSQL is rendered on these servers, the actual benefits realized are even higher. This is mainly due to the fact that ordinary applications cannot take advantage of advanced polymorphic types of multi-modeling techniques and the real results are even much beyond the transaction speed indicated here.

One of the other benefits of multi-modeling includes far reduced storage requirements when compared with other solutions. For example, it has been shown that a column storage format decreased storage requirements by a factor of 40% when compared with a typical SQL format. In Gensonix, when a column model is combined with Relational and Network models, the efficiency increases further, resulting in far less storage requirements while increasing the processing efficiency. Such techniques allow Gensonix to reach much higher levels of performance when compared to conventional SQL type systems.

In achieving this 8 million TPM record, Gensonix Enterprise NoSQL DB had to be integrated with the latest DWA hardware technology from Scientel. The MDWA2900 features the latest in advanced hardware. It utilizes the Intel Xeon 6-core processor (E5-2620V3) operating at 2.4GHz and is configured with 16 GB of DDR4 SDRAM operating at 2133 MHz. The system also utilizes high speed interconnect switches operating at up to 40GBps. When integrated with the inherent blazing speed of the Gensonix Enterprise Polymorphic NoSQL DB system, the MDWA2900 delivers an astounding 8 million transactions per minute (with no replication; 6 MTPM with replication) at relatively low system cost and high reliability. The standard configuration utilizes a 128GB SSD for the operating system while the data storage is on a high speed 480GB SSD.

The MDWA2900 system is one of the smallest form factor high performance computing (HPC) configurations used to achieve record-breaking TPM levels. A single node system is no bigger than a single tower and the MDWA2900 system incorporates an identical tower configured in an identical fashion. The identical node is a fully operating companion node providing 100% active replication of the DB and can function on its own in case of a primary node failure.

Oracle and MySQL

Some of heard of SQL by Microsoft, and now, most have also heard of MySQL by Oracle Corporation.  What exactly is MySQL?  And why does it seem to always be in computer server news articles and ads?

MySQL can formally be defined as a database management system, of which is relational.  It actually runs as its very own computer server, providing access for numerous users to several and variant database systems.

Named after the daughter of Michael Widenius, developer of the system, it was originally created and began the marketing process in nineteen hundred and ninety-four.  Now, after its formal internal release in nineteen hundred and ninety-five, this database management system is formally owned by Oracle Corporation.

Currently MySQL is being overloaded, and is said to be not capable of holding such large amounts of data. As personnel and IT experts work around the clock to solve the issue, more and more companies are buying into MySQL or Microsoft’s SQL to save money, anyway.

Oracle is presently claiming that their MySQL management system actually saves a company up to ninety percent more of the cost that Microsoft’s SQL server might.  Some take this to be a battle cry between Oracle and Microsoft, while others see it as healthy competition between one company and another.

Oracle Corporation has also stated that MySQL is to have a complete update and revamp, which should include, but is not limited to:  data modeling tools, new and improved online backups, admin tools, better and newer graphing systems, etc.  Even with the updates, the some are questioning the large price saving gap Oracle is selling to its customers and prospects, with respects to claiming cost efficiency over their current competitors.

Most believe that the Oracle system is going to outweigh the SQL system in the end, but most aren’t making formal statements at this time. There are still very visible gaps with respects to features each system holds, and capabilities each company is attempting to tweak.  And, until capabilities for holding and housing more data is available, some prospective clients are standing still.

Technology is consistently changing, and both Oracle and Microsoft have been in the forefront of positive global advancement and change.  It will be interesting to see what the next step will be for either company, with respects to MySQL and SQL.
