Blogging as a business has matured quite a bit. I started my first blog Thinking Monkey in 2000. That’s seven years ago. Back then having a blog was a relative novelty. Blogging has grown up quite a bit since then.
Blogging has become a relatively big business quickly. Yet it’s small enough and young enough that networking and newcomers can quickly make an impact and gather quite a readership. Learning how to generate that readership is a pretty daunting task. That’s where sitting down with your peers can help you learn how to generate buzz for your blog and how to build readership. I never achieved that critical mass with my first blog (although I did sell it to a Canadian media company). I hope to achieve it with this blog.
One thing that has become apparent is that I need to continue to learn how to build my brand and attract additional readers. That why I am seriously considering going to a blog conference. When I sold my company I went to a few conferences (Linuxworld, Vortex, Demo) most of them are incredibly expensive propositions (I believe Vortex was $2995 for a three day conference).
PostieCon 07 is affordably priced so that even a beginning blogger can attend. This means you can network with some rock star bloggers, like Robert Scoble, Jim Kukral , Michelle Madhok, David Ponce or Paul Lewis . Learning from A list bloggers can definitely help improve your blog. They help provide insights on how they made their blogs a success. Additionally thiis is a great opportunity to meet other bloggers who you can network with, exchange links or even exchange guest blog posts.
A good blog conference can help you with writing and content ideas as well so you can work through that writers block. More importantly you get some face to face networking with people who know the business of blogging and can help you succeed with your blog. I had a similar experience when I met Bob Metcalfe at Vortex and I expect Postiecon 07 to be a great conference to attend just for that reason. Additionally live blogging an event like Posticon is a great link building strategy. People love linking to real time events and getting a blogger’s insight at an event they can’t attend.
Postie Con is likely to become THE blogging conference so you can get at the beginning, and given the conference extremely low price ($199.95) makes it a great deal. I have regularly spent more than ten times that on a business conference.
Good bloggers really are the rock stars of the information age (without that pesky record label interference. So sign up for Posticon and start working on your own rock star status!
