A ton of people are blogging about poor Anna Nichole Smith and the MSM is reporting about it. One of the things that has irritated me about much of the commentary is how Anna Nichole married Texas oil billionaire J.Howard Marshall – here’s the Wikipedia entry

While performing at Gigi’s, a Houston strip club, in October 1991, Smith met elderly oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall and they began a relationship. During their two-year relationship, he reportedly lavished gifts on her and asked her to marry him several times.[14] She divorced her husband Billy on February 3, 1993, in Houston.[15] On June 27, 1994, Smith, 26, and Marshall, 89, married in Houston.[16] This resulted in a great deal of gossip about her marrying him for his money.[17] Though she reportedly never lived with him,[18] Smith maintained she loved her husband and that age did not matter to her.[citation needed] Thirteen months after his marriage to Smith, Marshall died on August 4, 1995, in Houston.

Ok. Anna Nichole Smith is stripping for a living. Our Texas billionaire is regularly visiting a strip club. People clearly imply that somehow Anna Nichole cast a spell of attraction to ensnare our poor hapless billionaire. It’s a strange inversion of the actual power relationship. Strippers are by definition pretty poor – and despite what people may think, they don’t actually have magical powers to enslave men. J. Howard Marshall knew EXACTLY what he was getting into and face it folks – he was the billionaire trolling a strip club. Anna Nichole didn’t seek him out. The idea that grown men (especially men the age of J. Howard Marshall) can somehow be bewitched is silly. Yet people seem to claim that. Strange when you think about it. That this Texas billionaire was helpless before the poor stripper’s power. Both got something out of the relationship. J. Howard got an attractive trophy wife and Anna Nichole got the security she so desperately craved.
