Brian (12:04 PM) :
Like I am saving $20 on the video card
Brian (12:04 PM) :
Anyway read the blog – some people have been confused about how to use the site. It’s best if you create an account – then you can set up custom product groupings and tag them

Brian (12:07 PM) :
Remember if you have any trouble – just save the url in a text file and the problem and we can address it.
dameron (12:07 PM) :

Brian (12:08 PM) :
Well I have spent a little bit of coin to get to this point –
dameron (12:09 PM) :
cool, it looks like it’ll work pretty well, i’ll see if I can find BSG seasons 1 and 2 for tam on it.
Brian (12:10 PM) :
I really need a blended search accross multiple categories – But it takes a little work
Brian (12:12 PM) :

dameron (12:17 PM) :
someone on fark was badmouthing bsg the other night and someone said “well, we can’t all pop in season 6 of Friends to see if Joey’s fucked Ross yet.”
Brian (12:17 PM) :
LOLS
Brian (12:17 PM) :
How can you badmouth BSG
Brian (12:18 PM) :
Because of the one episode with the insurgency?
dameron (12:18 PM) :
not that specific group but kos has a similar group of iraq vets running for congress that they pimp
dameron (12:18 PM) :
i forget what it was, but he was comparing it unfavorably to the original series!
Brian (12:19 PM) :
WHAT?
Brian (12:19 PM) :
I mean the original series had a better score but that’s about it
Brian (12:20 PM) :
Man I still get teary eyed watching that opening and listening to that opening
dameron (12:21 PM) :
i loooved that show as a kid, the end season (galactica 1980) was one of the worse shows in tv history
Brian (12:21 PM) :
Not really an end season – seperate show.
dameron (12:22 PM) :
yeah, barely related
Brian (12:22 PM) :
I mean Dr. Z?
Brian (12:22 PM) :
I think John Williams did the soundtrack
dameron (12:23 PM) :
It really gets ludicrous. Even worse, there was an FCC ruling where the 7:00 time slot was given back to the networks if the programming were public affairs, news-related or children’s programming. So, by dictate from the FCC, any program going in there had to meet one of those criteria. In that slot, an action-adventure show had to be done with virtually no violence (which is, of course, ludicrous
dameron (12:23 PM) :
. Everyone knows that “action-adventure” is just a soft synonym for “violent.”)
Because of this, Glen Larson was faced with the dilemma of how to do an action-adventure science fiction show that fit within the boundaries of children’s programming. There had to be at least one educational message every act, or four times an hour
dameron (12:23 PM) :
. Every episode had to have a premise that could be exploited from an educational standpoint, which goes a long way towards explaining the ludicrous plots that appeared throughout the series.
dameron (12:24 PM) :
When the series was picked up, a group of little kids called the Super Scouts were added to the cast. They followed Troy and Dillon around on their adventures. They had super powers; they could leap high into the air. They were smarter than earth kids and could play baseball better then earth kids, ad nauseum… Needless to say, the Super Scouts turned Galactica 1980 into something worse than a bad joke.
Brian (12:25 PM) :
Wikipedia?
dameron (12:25 PM) :
http://www.blast.net/hart/BG80.htm
dameron (12:25 PM) :
the Super Scouts!
dameron (12:36 PM) :
galactica 1980, what a nightmare.
dameron (12:36 PM) :
it killed the franchise for 25 years
Brian (12:36 PM) :
yeap – too bad really – BSG wasn’t a bad idea for a space opera
dameron (12:37 PM) :
quit interesting actually, the whole ancient astronaut thing was huge, pyramid power, it was very new agey in a way
Brian (12:39 PM) :
Yep – and talk about sexually open
dameron (12:41 PM) :
they had whores
Brian (12:42 PM) :
More like high end geishi on serenity
dameron (12:42 PM) :
yeah, and casino ships
Brian (12:44 PM) :
Well that would be believable with 12 habitable planets in a single star system
dameron (12:44 PM) :
i got the idea they were in different systems
Brian (12:46 PM) :
It’s uncertain in either series I got the sense they were in the same star system in the new series and different star systems in the old series
dameron (12:47 PM) :
i think the new is definitely in different systems
Brian (12:50 PM) :
Why have we only seen Caprica then?
dameron (12:51 PM) :
cause caprica looks like vancouver, the same reason we only see joshua tree on Star Trek
Brian (12:51 PM) :
I know that. Every alien world on SG1 looks like Vancouver
Brian (12:52 PM) :
I think we can safely assume all 12 colonies look like Vancouver
dameron (12:53 PM) :
yes, quite a beautful set of worlds, eh?
Brian (12:54 PM) :
No kidding. All alien world belong to Canada. Hoser
dameron (12:55 PM) :
i met a cylon once, in canada, she was hot, you don’t know her.
Brian (12:55 PM) :
Ah Bob and Doug Mackenzie
dameron (12:57 PM) :
god, i forgot about those guys.
dameron (01:04 PM) :
qemu is awesome, i just imaged one of our machines to a qemu images for archival purposes, now instead of having the data backed up I have the virtual server with the data on a dvd, if i need to get back at that server I pop it in and boot it.
Brian (01:05 PM) :
That’s cool -=> it’s a complete dvd of the machine state?
dameron (01:07 PM) :
it’s the whole os with the qemu compiled on a knoppix disk, i can boot it off any x86 machine and have the “server” back up and running in about 5 minutes. plus it’s a pretty small file, also, if I want, it’s a read only file system. I’ve been thinking about using this as a honeypot at home, a big, unpatched nt virtual box with a read only fs, just for kicks
dameron (01:07 PM) :
. it can appear to write to the disk and the swap/temp all works, but it reboots to exactly as I left it.
