Recently Oracle has announced that it has made JAVA 7 as its default version of the Java Runtime Environment [JRE]. This will be available to the consumers on www.java.com.
Now consumers can visit the website – Java.com and download the latest release of Java to take advantage of all its latest features, functionality and security fixes.
The latest Java SE 7 features the following updated features –
– Enhancements in the Java Plug-ins for better development and deployment of Rich internet applications
– It provides better security, performance and stability
– It also includes enhancements in Java Programming language that gives ease of writing codes to the Java Developers
– Some enhancements in JVM [Java Virtual Machine] are also done which now allows to support Non-Java languages
Oracle has decided that now it will begin the process of upgrading their own user base to the Java 7 release. In couple of coming months, Java users will be automatically upgraded by latest Java 7 according to the news. During the announcement made, Oracle also suggested to the users that at the time of upgrading themselves, it is better to remove the old versions of Java. This will help in better usability and enhanced performance.
Few days back, Java Standard Edition 7 Update and JavaFX 2.1 were announced and now it brings Java 7 available for the consumers. Oracle also declared that this Java SE 7 Update 4 is the first consumer release of Java 7 JRE that will be made available for users as a default version on the website. The Java SE 7 Update 4 includes next-generation Garbage Collection algorithm Garbage First [G1] feature.
The second important and useful feature that is present in this update is the accommodation for dynamic languages. Many other features were added which includes – better multi-core and parallelism support, Compiler Optimization for improving the productivity of Developers, and Enhanced interface for working with file systems that can access more file attributes and more detailed information about errors.
Oracle is also working continuously on merging the Oracle Java HotSpot JVM and the Oracle JRockit JVM. The main objective of this merge is to offer a platform that leverages the best features of both of these leading Virtual machines. In the latest Update 4, all the performance enhancements are being incorporated that are available in Oracle JRockit into Java HotSpot and OpenJDK.
Seeing all these updates, it can be said that Oracle has firm plans for Java language for the upcoming years. Also, users will be able to see continuous technical advancements across the Java platform that will be useful for the development.
