SUPERMATH Conference Features Technology Demonstrations in Predictive Analytics

An expo of revolutionary analytics technologies in everyday life will be showcased in four industry “neighborhoods” – Risk, Security and Fraud; Healthcare and Medicine; Media, Marketing and Social Networks, and Energy, Infrastructure and Clean Tech. More than 100 area companies are involved in creating new analytics technologies-predictive analytics, bioinformatics, and business intelligence Among the 20 technologies to be demonstrated are:

SPAWAR (ship and fire identification and mapping) – Predictive analytics is demonstrated by the RAPid Image Exploitation Resource (RAPIER) which uses advanced image algorithms to detect, classify and map ships and identify and map fires using high-resolution satellite imagery. It is a valuable tool for first responders, disaster response coordinators, maritime law enforcement, and port authorities.

LinkedIn (social media beta test) — LinkedIn will demo Signal, which provides a new way to consume information and news that’s most relevant to professionals. Signal is the first LinkedIn product aimed at helping professionals glean relevant insight from status updates and news. Attendees can experience how their personal LinkedIn profiles create a more effective social search and news search engine, updated to the minute.

Parity Computing (medical text analysis) — Demonstrates provider-facing healthcare analytics products. These clinical decision support products interpret human-written medical text and real-time device data to save lives, reduce costs, and help hospitals assess themselves.

UCSD LISA (driver prediction system) — The Laboratory for Intelligent and Safe Automobiles (LISA) explores innovative approaches to making future automobiles safer and “intelligent.” Its research considers issues in sensing, analysis, modeling, and prediction of parameters associated with drivers, occupants, vehicle dynamics and vehicle surroundings. . In collaboration with automakers Volkswagen and Nissan, LISA has implemented a next-generation Driver Assistance System which predicts driver’s intentions to change lanes, turn, or brake up to 2.5 seconds prior to the maneuver.

Intuit (customer feedback analysis) — Intuit, maker of TurboTax software, demonstrates how it applies text analytics to large amounts of unstructured customer feedback (literally the “voice of the customer”) to enable improvements in product, infrastructure, and support. This leads to improvements in customer experience for tens of millions of people as well as operational benefits that can lead to substantial saving for the business.

LabSynch (medical research sharing) – Business intelligence is demonstrated by enabling biomedical researchers and their colleagues to record, store and analyze massive volumes of useful study data with less effort while sharing methodology and data completely, rapidly, and in context.

Conference Chair Tom Clancy, Director of the San Diego Software Industry Council and Managing Director at Tao Venture Partners said “We are very excited to be showcasing many of the new and innovative analytics applications being developed in the San Diego region. It is designed to educate business and the general public about the significant roles and possibilities analytics present for creating a healthier, safer and more efficient world.”

The San Diego Software Industry Council is one of San Diego’s largest trade organizations for regional software companies, related technologies and services. More information about predictive analytics, bioinformatics, and business intelligence can be found at www.supermathconference.com
